Gut health plays a central role in hormonal regulation, inflammation, and overall wellbeing.

At Women’s Health & Gut Clinic, digestive symptoms are assessed within a clinical women’s health consultation, with colonic hydrotherapy used as an adjunct therapy within a structured, clinically governed framework.

Why Gut Health Matters

The digestive system plays a key role in:

  • Hormonal health

  • Inflammation and immune function

  • Nutrient absorption

  • Nervous system regulation

Many vaginal and hormonal symptoms are rooted in the gut — this is often where we begin.

Disruption may present as:

  • You feel bloated, heavy, or uncomfortable after eating

  • You experience constipation, diarrhoea, or irregular bowel movements

  • You have reflux, indigestion, or stomach pain

  • You feel fatigued, foggy, or low in energy

  • You have recurrent thrush or BV linked to gut imbalance

  • You feel like your digestion is “off” but don’t know why

These symptoms are common — but they are not something you have to live with.

'The Colonic Hydrotherapy (3 sessions) was truly life changing. Physically, it helped clear that sluggish, tired feeling. It gave me a better understanding of how my body works. My energy levels are higher, my skin is glowing & my eyes are brighter. Emotionally, it helped clear/release old stuck emotions some of which I didn't even realise were there. In turn, this has rippled out into my relationships which have all changed for the better. Spiritually, I feel so much more connected to myself and I now trust myself even more. Throughout the 3 sessions, Sarah was amazing. She put me at ease, talked me through everything in a gentle & caring manner. Her guidance & knowledge through the whole journey was filled with so much love. Thank you ❤️✨️' - Suzanne

Colonic Hydrotherapy

What is Colonic Hydrotherapy?

Colonic hydrotherapy is a gentle, water-based treatment used to support bowel function. Warm, filtered water is introduced into the colon via a small rectal tube to assist with stool softening and evacuation.

At our gut health clinic in Dublin, treatments are tailored to your symptoms and delivered with a strong emphasis on safety, dignity, and patient comfort.

How Many Sessions Are Needed?

For many women, a short course of 3 sessions over 2–4 weeks can support initial regulation of bowel function.

A longer course may be recommended for more persistent symptoms, always guided by your individual presentation.

Colonic hydrotherapy is offered as an adjunct therapy within a broader clinical care plan.

It may be used to support symptoms such as:

  • Constipation

  • Bloating

  • Sluggish digestion

  • Gut–hormone interaction

It does not replace medical diagnosis or treatment, and referral to a GP or specialist may be recommended where appropriate.

Who This Is For

Colonic hydrotherapy may support:

  • Constipation treatment

  • Bloating and digestive discomfort

  • Sluggish bowel function

  • Gut–hormone imbalance

All clients are assessed individually before treatment.

What to expect

Before Your Appointment

  • Each session begins with a clinical consultation, where your symptoms, history, and goals are reviewed.

  • Clinical intake and symptom assessment

  • Review of digestive and health history

  • Clear explanation of the procedure

The Procedure

During the treatment:

  • You are comfortably positioned and fully draped for privacy

  • The practitioner will ask consent and explain a DRE - Digital Rectal Examination before they perform this examination.

  • A small sterile tube is then gently inserted

  • Warm water is introduced slowly

  • You may feel fullness, movement, or the urge to pass stool

The process is calm, controlled, and guided throughout.
You remain in control at all times and can pause or stop the session if needed.

Session Length

  • Initial consultation and treatment: 90 minutes

  • Follow-up sessions: 60 minutes

  • However the treatment itself is usually 45 minutes, the rest is consultation, getting changed and cleansing.

How It Works

Colonic hydrotherapy involves the gentle introduction of warm, filtered water into the colon via a small, sterile rectal tube.

This supports:

  • Softening and movement of stool

  • Natural bowel evacuation through peristalsis

  • Increased awareness of digestive function

  • Water flow, temperature, and pressure are carefully regulated throughout the session to ensure comfort and safety.

  • Where appropriate, gentle abdominal support may be used to assist bowel movement. The colon is responsible for the final stages of digestion, including water absorption and waste elimination.

When bowel function becomes sluggish — often due to diet, stress, hormonal shifts, or lifestyle factors — symptoms such as bloating, constipation, and discomfort can arise.

Colonic hydrotherapy works by:

  • Supporting mechanical movement of stool

  • Encouraging bowel motility

  • Assisting regular elimination

It does not replace the body’s natural function, but may help restore rhythm and awareness in those experiencing disrupted bowel patterns.

After Your Appointment

You may notice:

  • Increased bowel activity

  • A feeling of lightness or fatigue

  • Temporary changes in digestion

We recommend:

  • Hydration

  • Simple, nourishing foods

  • Rest where needed

Depending on your clinical presentation, sessions may include:

  • Ozone therapy

  • Epsom salts

  • Coffee infusion

  • Gentle herbal or probiotic support

These are introduced gradually and only where appropriate within your care plan.
